The opening reception for the Sound of Art’s (SOA) Art Trek: Uptown celebrating the work of artist Don Rimx at La Sala 78 was, as usual, an absolute blast. Not only was the packed house treated to some really mind-blowing artwork courtesy of Don Rimx, scrumptious treats from the kitchen of La Sala 78 as well as wine but we also had the distinct pleasure of being serenaded by the musical styling of Drew Torres and his acoustic guitar. Don Rimx’s unique; his presence at La Sala is like no other artists that has exhibited in their space before; he created La Sala’s first in-store mural. Don Rimx work completely transformed the familiar La Sala 78 and the reaction to it has been visceral. The work is on display and on sale, so if you want to get some Don Rimx in your personal abode or business, it is best you act fast.
There was an upscale culture, music and art experience at the loft of the world’s number one Champagne,Armand de Brignac (Ace of Spades). Armand De Brignac in conjunction with shot caller Datwon Thomas and the Sound of Art (SOA), hosted an intimate yet spectacular event entitled appropriately enough A Toast of Summer. Not only were we treated to copious amounts of Champagne but we also had the good fortune of listening to the über talented Bilal, doing his thing, without a mic and only a guitar for accompaniment. Bilal shared with the select group of attendees some songs from his forthcoming album, Airtight’s Revenge, which will be released September 14th as well as some of his old favorites. In addition, SOA artist, the incomparable Toofly, had her artwork tastefully and strategically placed throughout the swank space.
VENUE: CHELSEA ARTS MUSEUM

New York, NY
The SOA was invited by the Chelsea Arts Museums Young Associates group to add to one of their seasonal parties.
But why did the Sound of Art get down with the Chelsea Arts Museum, when the SOA makes it their business not to get involved with museum...well its simple...
For those of you less familiar with the YA, its a dynamic group that makes experiencing art & culture accessible through non-intimidating events such as intimate gallery talks, studio visits with artists, as well as private tours of museums, art fairs & auction houses(all reasons why we got down with them). Their biggest events though are their seasonal parties which are open to non-members as well.
So in addition to DJ Sir Shorty from the Rose Bar, spinning on the 1's and 2's, and a 4-hour open bar, & video performances; THE SOA called upon some of its "iller" artists to go live on the unstretched canvases hung on the walls of the museum itself...CRAIG ANTHONY MILLER, DON RIMX & LOGIK ONE.
Best part of the night, was watching the looks on the faces of those in awe over the art being created by the SOA Squad. Well, to be expected by these AWEsome artists.
FROM ART TREK:UPTOWN, SOUND OF ART TAKES A DETOUR TO SOHO
DATE: 2010-06-22
VENUE: The Armand de Brignac Loft Office
SOHO, NYC
Uptown-based art entity, Sound of Art has been on the path of injecting a strong dose of desire, excitement and stimulation into the gallery-deprived neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood. It has and will continue to use its Art Trek: Uptown initiative to make Uptown the new and well-respected art scene of the Big Apple.
But every now and then the Sound of Art gets called up to leave Uptown and satisfy the artistic needs of a bigger audience. This time a detour had to be taken to SoHo, The Toast of Summer, an ultra-exclusive (only 15 people were invited) after work lounge affair catered to CEOs, VP and others who share the tastemaker lifestyle.
Hosted by pop culture maven/socialite, Datwon Thomas and presented by the No.1 Champagne in the world, Armand de Brignac (wow. everyone should experience the this champagne, thanks EM!!). The Sound of Art matched this scenario of good living with the works of Joe Buck, (who made Sound of Art history at La Sala 78 Cafe on Dyckman, when he sold 6 out of 9 pieces). All guests were treated to the sound of this events art, when Peter Hadar, put together an emotional and uplifting performance that moved the crowd as his lone voice carried the scent of love around Armand de Brignacs loft.
A Toast of Summer was definitely worth stepping out of the lane for but the magnetic pull of home-base has back on our Art Trek: Uptown!

From Toofly to M. Tony Peralta, the Sound of Art’s ART TREK: UPTOWN is starting to pick up some momentum. Besides the fact that the name, M.Tony Peralta, is starting to ring bells and that the Sound of Art has a reputation for creating a serious buzz for its art affairs, Thursday’s Art Trek reception was truly a great example of Uptowners wanting a different type of socially sophisticated experience.
Take the element of Peralta’s aesthetically pleasing, Buena Suerte art series, which resonates with many Uptown residents with roots in Latin culture; then mix it with a social scene that people hunger for (new conversation, new people, new spaces, new ideas) and it makes the discoveries that the ART TREK: UPTOWN offers that much more worth while. Oh and don’t forget to throw in the excitement of the NBA Championship Finals.
This reception not only generated interest in owning Mr. Peralta’s artwork from Sound of Art established buyers and those new to this art movement but it also furthered the SOA mystique.
