Back in the days, in Hip-Hop's heyday, the words "World Premiere" coming through your speakers evoked an almost Pavlovian response. Listeners would nearly salivate in anticipation of the blessings about to be bestowed on their ears, minds and souls. The Sound of Art (SOA) captures the essence of that feeling with its latest offering, WORLD PREMIERE, at the world-famous World boutique.
On this auspicious occasion, artwork specifically created for this event by SOA's illustrious roster of artists will be unveiled for the very first time. SOA's visionary founder, Leopold, has tasked a talented group of artists that include M. Tony Peralta, Joe Buck and Mario Pena among others with digging deep to produce works of mind-blowing proportions but even he has purposely kept himself from viewing the results. This function will be pregnant with possibilities - revelations and treasures will abound. In addition, the proprietors of World will remove all other apparel from their racks and only showcase pieces designed by the Peralta Project and Thrust.
Steaz, the maker of fine organic, thirst quenching, sparkling green tea beverages, joins the fray as one of the official sponsors along with ZipCar which will showcase one of it's art inspired vehicles at the event. The icing on the proverbial cake is plenty of food, live DJ and musical performances set in World's intimate backyard patio. This will be a World Premiere indeed – you snooze you lose – ya dig!!! SOA y'all.

Jesus Christ!!! The Sound of Art has done it again. I don't mean to use the lord's name in vain but SOA's latest exhibit A Jeezus Piece featuring the artwork of the one and only Tony Philippou is truly divine. The launch of the collection took place at the acclaimed Latino eatery, It's a Dominican Thing, which turned water into sangria and unleashed a deluge of delectable Hor'duerves for the gathered throngs. The blessings only multiplied with the unveiling of Tony Philippou's compilation of renderings of Jesus Christ as an everyman, ranging from a b-boy to a rocker, to a pimp and a biker among others. Tony's work resonates with vitality and a raucous energy that is absolutely spellbinding. Mr. Phililppou was also on hand to expound and share some insights into his artistic perspective with the attendees. So there you have it – since you now know SOA events are good for the soul missing the next one would be a sin. Stay tuned…

If there were ever any doubts about the remarkable ability of art to completely and fundamentally transform a space they were dispelled with SOA's latest tour de force SCRATCH. BOMB. SPIT. BREAK. featuring the work of Joe Buck. For those that don't know, Joe Buck is a serious and prolific artist who through his work for Hip-Hop luminaries De La Soul has left an indelible mark on Hip-Hop culture. It is that indomitable spirit which was captured in this expansive collection of portraits and off the wall collages. This art exhibit was in actuality a dual exhibit because it showcased for the first time the entire SBSB (SCRATCH. BOMB. SPIT. BREAK.) collection in addition to a preview of Joe Buck's PEAKS AND VALLEYS compilation. What made this event truly remarkable however was the innovative manner that the art was organically embedded into the venue through a clever use of a graffiti style bubble that enveloped each of the exhibits. The bubble designed by Joe Buck himself contained the artist's personal memorabilia as well as notations, thoughts and artist-designed cover art and served as hip linear notes for the installation. The launching of the installation at Vault, Harlem's cool kicks and apparel emporium, was a rousing success and luckily for the lovers of emerging art it will be on display until August 2008.

What a better way to bring in the spring than with a Sound of Art event. SOA’s latest creation Amore, Salud Y Dinero in collaboration with Apartment clothing was another banger and a primer for what SOA has in store for 2008. Apartment is a Medellín, Colombia based and art inspired line with distinctive Latin American themes and motifs. The walls were intricately adorned with the works of the following SOA artists: Toofly, M. Tony Peralta, Ivette Urbaez, Mario Pena and Chris Partello. The Apartment design collective also contributed some of their work to the exhibition. The well-stocked gift bags given to attendees included Apartment t-shirts, CD’s and SOA catalogs. The spacious but cozy Agent Red International showroom was the venue for the evening, which marks the first time the Sound of Art has chosen a showroom as the setting for one of its soirees.

HARLEM-New York City, NY
For far too long, “respectable society” has deemed that the real Manhattan ends at 100th Street. Those unfortunate souls who happened to be born and reside north of this de facto demarcation are relegated to outsider status - outcasts and rabble living in close proximity to wealth, influence and power. Those denizens of that other Manhattan, however, will not go down without a fight. They dream big and will kick, claw and scratch to get their piece of the proverbial pie. That is called hustle and Harlem in particular and Uptown in general is the hometown of hustle.
The Sound of Art (SOA) pays tributes to that never die attitude that has made Uptown what it is with Uptown’s Finest, a genre-bending art experience highlighting the hustle of Nicky Barnes and the work of SOA artist M. Tony Peralta as well as celebrating the 1 year anniversary of exclusive sneaker boutique Vault. The Peralta Project in conjunction with Vault will also be unveiling an ultra cool Nicky Barnes collaboration T-shirt. Vault, one of uptown’s premiere clothing and sneaker spots will play host to the festivities. Located in the heart of hustle town Harlem on Frederick Douglas Blvd. between 133rd and 134th, Vault has quickly become a locale to check for if footwear and sartorial superiority is your thing. Vault is where the hustlers, the hood and Hollywood shop because hustle is as hustle does – long live hustle!!!
